2026 Oscar’s race for Documentary categories Coming in focus. Indieview can announce 2025 Albie Awards Honorees, which leads directly into the campaign to ensure an Oscar node.
Albie Awards invoiced as an important industry event, especially when they take place before New York Film Festival and at the beginning of the Academy Awards campaign. 2025 Albie Awards will be held on September 24 at Ginnys Supper Club at Red Rooster in Harlem, with an after -party at the Maysle Documentary Center.
2025 Honorees for Albie Awards is a trio of acclaimed festival documentaries. Oscar-nominated filmmaker Raoul Peck’s “Orwell: 2+2 = 5”, which premiered at the Film Festival 2025, is among the elections, together with the Sundance Award winner “The Perfect Neighbour” and “Seeds.”
“Orwell: 2+2 = 5” prisoners Life of “1984” author George Orwell. Peck previously directed “I am not your negro”, shown at the Maysle Documentary Center as part of its Oscar-nominated driving.
“The Perfect Neighbour” centers on Ajike Owens, a black woman, who was killed by her white neighbor in Florida 2023 after a seemingly less dispute. The film explores the effects of stands your ground guns; Geeta Gandbhir’s “The Perfect Neighbor” won the Directing Award for the US documentary at the Sundance Film Festival 2025 and will debut on Netflix later this fall.
Brittany Shynes “seeds” also takes place in the American South. The feature won the Grand Jury Award at the Sundance Film Festival 2025 and tells the story of generational farmers.

Former Albie Award film creators include Margaret Brown, Stanley Nelson, Michèle Stephenson and Joe Brewster, plus Oscar winner Basel Adra, Yuval Abraham, Hamdan Balal and Rachel Szor.
The Albie Awards and Harlem’s Mayle’s Documentary Center were founded in 2007 to celebrate “prominent filmmakers who give stories alive in thought -provoking and provocative ways,” the organization says. Late director Albert Maysle’s founded MDC to promote documentaries that highlight the driving force for a more fair world.
