It has been a cathartic journey to grow into love and respect a man that I as a child I avoided that I was thinking about. Now as a disability advocate and actor, I can’t think of any great honor (yet heavy responsibility) than telling the true story of Joseph Carey Merrick. ”
“The Elephant Man” will be written by playwright Pomerance Son, Moby Pomerance. The shooting begins in the spring of 2026.
Eve Pomerance, which produces the film, added: “My father never wanted dentures to be used on stage because he felt it took the audience out of history. He wanted them to be full of Merrick, to see themselves in him. “
“Elephantman” is based on the diaries of Dr. Frederick Trevor, who was Merrick’s doctor. The game extends over Merrick’s time at London Hospital. The game first ran on West End in London 1977. Bradley Cooper, David Bowie, Billy Crudup, Mark Hamill, Philip Angel and David Schofield have all depicted Merrick on stage.
“The Elephant Man” will be produced by Stephen Nemeth for rhino films and Eve Pomerance for big film.
