The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has officially announced its newly elected board for 2025-2026. The group – which sets the academy’s strategic vision, preserves the organization’s financial health and ensures the fulfillment of its assignment – will take up the first scheduled board meeting for the new semester.
The first time board members include focus functions chairman Peter Kujawski and three times the Oscar-nominated composer Carter Burwell. The sitting governors who were re-elected to the board include Oscar-winning actress Marlee Matlin, Oscar-nominated producer Jason Blum and Oscar-nominated director Jason Reitman (who was also recently elected Academy Museum by Motion Pictures Board of Trustes.) The list of governors who return to the board after an interruption include Emmy-winning screenwriter Larry Karaszewski.
The academy has 19 branches, each represented by three governors, with the exception of the animation branch, represented by two governors; The short branch, represented by a governor; And the production and technology branch, represented by a governor. The production and technology branch and short films did not hold elections this time.
Governors, including the controlled selected governors, can earn up to two three-year periods (in a row or non-insurance), followed by a two-year interruption, after which the eligibility is renewed for up to two another three-year mandate periods for a maximum of 12 years.
While the Academy did not contain demographic statistics for this government, previous year group of 55 members were 53 percent women, with 27 percent of their membership belonging to an under-represented race or ethnic group.
