The EMBERS again dominated elections for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board, with 10 board members were re -elected to their positions and three former governors who return to the board after an interruption.
Marlee Matlin, Jason Reitman and Jason Blum were among the governors who won re -vote made by 17 of the academy’s 19 branches and announced on Wednesday.
This is the third year in a row where judges won in the vast majority of board, after two years of significant turnover after stricter time limits forced many long -term governors from the board.
The only first governors elected by votes from each branch were Peter Kujawski, who replaced Donna Gigliotti in the managers of the managers; Gigi Williams, who replaced Howard Berger in makeup artists and hairstyles branch; Carter Burwell, who replaced Charles Fox in the music branch; And Andrew Roberts, who replaced Paul Debevec in the Visual Effects branch.
Gigliotti and Berger had to leave the board due to time limits that dictate that governors must take a two -year break after serving two consecutive three -year periods. Fox could not run again because he had reached the life limit of 12 years on the board.
Costume designer’s branch governor Ruth E. Carter and the author’s branch governor Eric Roth also had to leave the board due to semester limits, and they were replaced by former governors Isis Mussenen and Larry Karaszewski respectively. Former Governor Christina Kounelias was also returned to the board to represent the marketing and public relations branch, where she will replace Megan Colligan.
The academy consists of 19 branches, of which 16 are represented on the board of three governors. The animation and short film branches, which were previously lumped together into a single branch, have been divided into separate branches with two and one governors, while the latest branch, production and technology, are also represented by a single governor.
Each governor earns a three -year period, with the governors within a branch that serves displaced conditions so that a place is up for elections every year.
Another three governors-to-big-Stora Devon Franklin, Rodrigo Garcia and Janet Yang-nominated by the Academy President and approved by the Board rather than being elected by member votes. Franklin, Garcia and Yang were first appointed the board by then President John Bailey in 2019 and was appointed by David Rubin 2022, so they must also resign at the end of their current conditions.
Yang is currently on her third one-year period as Ampas president, but she will not be eligible for a fourth term because the president must be a sitting board member. Before the new board votes on her compensation in her first meeting, she will nominate a new slate of major governors.
The new board retains the past board’s balance between 29 women and 26 men, although it may change depending on the new governors at large.
