Eddie Alcazar is the sub-radar, the future visionary filmmaker who has collaborated with everyone from Steven Soderbergh to Darren Aronofsky and The Weeknd. Soderbergh Executive-produced Alcazars 2018 Sci-Fi debut “Perfect” before collaborating with the filmmaker again for his 2023 Black and white sundance premiere “Divinity,” which indieview considered to be one of that year’s “nicer films.”
Aronofsky, in the meantime, executive produced Alcazar’s short film “The Vandal”, released by New Yorker Studios 2021. And filmmaker Alcazar, who also works as a writer and game developer, also wrote and directed The Weeknd’s Stop-Motion Music Video “Red Terror” earlier this year.
But Alcazar’s next project is ”Bullet time“A hand drawn TV Pilot, four years to do, that he created and directed that tribute to the golden age of the 90s animation (think “The Ren & Stimpy Show”, which will immediately think about when you see the surreal trailer below). Alcazar hopes that DIY, tactile attitude to the story will be an antidote to AI-driven times. Danny Elfman also composed the music.
Indiewire debuts a first look at the project before it leads to the Fantasia genrefilm festival this summer. See below.
Here is a synopsis: “In a surrealist world run by retro-gaming nostalgia and Saturday mornament film Mayhem, Bullet Bullet follows the emotionally unstable bull terrier-when he struggles through a bizarre digital game. Animation and a pulse pound original point.” Alcazar. ” Bob Jaques (“Clean and Stimpy,” “Spongebob Squarepants”) act as an animation director, while voice actors include Eric Bauza, Luis Bordonada, David Firth and Uly.
“Pleased to finally share a project that makes a lot of sense for me,” Alcazar said in a statement. “Four years ago, this movie was started, and at the same time I lost my dog ball, which I still think of every day. His memory kept me going when I made this animation. This experience gave a stronger appreciation for all the talent and details that go into the cartoons that we all grew to love.”
He added, “90’s seemed like a golden era of cartoon inspiration, innovation and love, and I wanted to go back to that feeling. The team behind this project is a mixture of experienced talents from classics such as’ pure & stimpy, ‘Pee week’s playhouse’ and ‘big adventure’ and ‘gumby’ to nam. A little bitter cute.
The complete Fantasia festival lineup will be announced soon, with the event that will be July 18 to August 4. But we can confirm that “Bullet Time” will appear. Look at the trailer below.
