Producer Wan, who also directed the first two “Conjuring” films, agreed that it was best to centen the function only on Farmiga and Wilson’s characters. “The banking heart of this franchise is Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson who plays Ed and Lorraine,” Wan said. “Family’s dynamics, the faith that the characters have and the faith they have in each other are really the things that drive this particular franchise. I think that’s what people love about it. At least for me and (producer) Peter Safran, it’s really about finding a way to tell the stories about these characters and wrapping them in a way that we started with them.”
Farrmy teased that “The Last Rites” is actually “different from the others” when it comes to previous films. “The other three were about ghosts, and this one is about counting, in a way,” she said.
