20. The classic “Perfect Date” line is of particular importance
Every year on April 25, Memes shows up to celebrate the film’s beloved quotes from Miss Rhode Island about the “perfect date”, which she wrongly interprets as her favorite day on the calendar rather than her ideal romantic outing. As it turns out, screenwriter Marc Lawrence wrote the line, but Donald adjusted it by changing the date to his own wife’s birthday.
“I just said, ‘Could it be April 25? It’s my wife’s birthday,’ ‘” the director revealed. “So I am very happy that every year on her birthday there are all these memes.”
21. Get the last laugh
Donald said he intentionally contains extra scenes in early incisions of his films, just if something pops up with the audience he did not expect, so critics are never invited to these shows. But the director remembered, movie blogger Harry Knowles Snuck into a test screening and “gave it the most scary, worst review of any movie ever, including that I shouted out for having personally ruined Sandy Bullock’s career.”
Fortunately, the studio seemed to be unclear of the early negative buzz, and in the end the film was still a hit and collected $ 212 million worldwide from a budget of $ 45 million. “The only thing I can say,” said Donald, “is that I am sure the movie was a huge success and a type of classic comedy, which makes big money so I can kindly turn my finger on that review and go, ‘heh, heh!’
