Harvey Fiertein gets the Lifetime Achievement Award at 2025 Tony’s


Harvey Fiertein has been selected to get the Special Tony Award for lifetime results in the theater at 2025 Tony’s.

For four decades, the four-time Tony winner has won for “Torch Song Trilogy”-Both best games and best actors in a game-as well as the Best Book of a Musical for “La Cage Aux Folles” and best actors in a musical for “Hairspray.” He also wrote the books for “Kinky Boots”, “Newsies” and “A Catered Affair”, to name a few and revised the book for “Funny Girl.”

“Harvey Fiertein’s contribution to the American theater, both as an artist and activist, represents an extraordinary heritage,” said American Theater Wing President and CEO Heather Hitchens and Broadway League President Jason Laks in a joint statement on Thursday. “We are pleased to honor him with this year’s lifetime in the theater award and can’t wait to celebrate one of our icons at the Tony Awards on June 8th.”

Former recipient of the Special Award includes Carol Channing, Julie Harris, Rosemary Harris, Jerry Herman, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Terrence McNally, Jack O’Brien, Harold Prince, Chita Rivera, Stephen Sondheim, Tommy Tune and Andrew Lloyd.

Outside the theater, Fiertein and his signature vote can be seen/heard in “Mrs Doubtfire”, “Independence Day” and “Mulan.” He was also nominated for a supportive actor Emmy for his work with “Cheers” and was welcomed to the American Theater Hall of Fame 2007.

Colleague Tony winner Cynthia Erivo will be worthy of 78th Tony Awards Live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City June 8 at CBS and streams on Paramount+.
