“I wasn’t so happy when I was at that show,” said Huston (to note “Smash” notorious Stave -closed Huston’s name in the opening credits during the series finale). “I lived in New York and I was not so happy to live in New York for the obvious reasons. It was a cold winter, and I didn’t feel very much appreciated in that role. I was a bit depressed by it. It was hard really; I didn’t really have it.”
“Smash” played Katherine McPhee and Megan Hiltty as two actresses who strive to make Marilyn Monroe in a fictional stage music called “Bombshell.” Debra Messing and Jack Davenport with Huston. Uma Thurman, Jesse L. Martin, Daphne Rubin-Wega, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Jonas, Bernadette Peters and Liza Minnelli also showed up in the series.
“Smash” won a Critics Choice Television Award, a Glaad Media Award, and received five nominations from Primetime Emmy Awards and won for outstanding choreography. The series also received both Golden Globe and Grammy Award nominations. The show was canceled in 2013 after two seasons, but is now Get a (real) Broadway adaptation.
The “John Wick” actress also revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer in 2019; While she is “in the clear” now the disease affected her attitude towards her career.
“It’s not something that came easy,” Huston said about his diagnosis. “It came as a great shock, but it made me aware of what I shouldn’t do, in places I shouldn’t go. One of these places took the life too seriously. So now that the opportunity arises, I laugh and I try not to do a big thing about things.”
She added, “Life is hard and wonderful. It also gives you the idea that the world is great and that you can somehow match it. That you are ready for what is happening.”
