One of the earliest influencers of rock & roll gets one Biopian Based on her life and has a big name pop star to portray her. Lizzo Will play Sister Rosetta Tharpe in a musical biopic based on Tharpe’s life, said an individual with knowledge of the IndieWire project.
The filmwith the title “Rosetta” is currently under development for Amazon MGM Studiosand Lizzo also produces the project together with Kevin Beisler, as well as Nina Yang Bongiovi and Forest suite for their banner significant productions. The film will be written by Natalie Chaidez (“The Flight Missionary”, “Queen of the South”) and Kwynn Perry (“Tigerbelles,” “The Burned Photo”). No director is attached.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe began his career in the 30s with his gospel recordings and gained popularity in the 40s, one of the first to mix gospel sounds with the electric guitar. But she became a real trailblazer who inspired countless rock legends, including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Johnny Cash and many more. Dubbed “Godmother of Rock & Roll”, she was among the first to use heavy distortion on her electric guitar and helped to pave the way for the classic Blues sound. She also toured famous with Muddy Waters in the 60s throughout Europe and inspired other guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Jeff Beck. Rolling Stone appointed her as the sixth best guitarist of all time.
The film focuses specifically on how Tharpe, born Rosetta Nubin, needed to hide his love for another woman and finally hosted her wedding in a baseball stadium in 1951 in front of 20,000 strangers and transformed the occasion into the first stadium concert. We’ll see if Sister Rosetta suddenly learns how to play the flute just as Lizzo has become known for.

Lizzo has a new album coming out this year and recently released new singles “Still Bad” and “Love in Real Life.”
