After having testimony in Syed’s murder procedure, Wilds retreated to anonymity and refused on record interview requests for Series. In December 2014, after the podcast’s season a final aired, he told Interception In his first public interview, he felt that Sarah Koenig had “demonized” him.
Wilds became an important witness for the prosecution, while the defense claimed he lied to protect himself. Koenig would raise the question of why Adnan, as at the end of the day did not seem to Near Jay would have hired him to help bury a body. She also spent a lot of time talking about the inconsistencies in Jay’s story between his two interviews with detective and his testimony at the trial.
“People must realize, we try cases in the real world,” Kevin Urick, who prosecuted Syed, told the interception When asked that Jay’s story changes several times. “We take our witnesses when we find them. We did not choose Jay to be Adnan’s accomplice. Adnan chose Jay. Remember that Jay committed a crime here. He was an accomplice after the fact in a murder. A very serious crime … People can very rarely tell the same story in the same way twice. If they did, I would be very suspected.
“My wife knows about my commitment to this case,” Wilds said. “Since I eventually collaborated with the police and testified, I know that there are people at home who would consider me as a snitch and would hurt me. So for the most part, we have really protected for our integrity.”
He told the interception that Syed first showed him Hae’s body in the trunk on his car outside Wild’s grandmother’s house, not at the best buying site – a revelation that was not forwarded during the trial Series. But Wilds insisted that he had nothing to do with murdering Lee.
“There is nothing that will change the fact that this guy drove in front of my grandmother’s house, spaced the trunk and had his dead girlfriend in the luggage room,” he said. “Everything that will make him innocent don’t involve me. Hae was dead before she came to my house. Everything that makes Adnan Innocent not involve me. There is a specific point where I got involved in this. What happened before I don’t know.”
