Pete Ohs bring the horror of domestic to the screen in its third collaboration with Jeremy O. Harris. OHS, who previously edited Harris documentary “Slave Play. Not a movie. A game. “And helps the upcoming India” Erupcja “with Harris and Charli XCX, directs and co-writes the SXSW function”The real beauty of being bitten by a tick. “This is the first film to be released by Harri’s new production company, BB2.
Zoë Chao joints “The real beauty of being bitten by a tick” as a grieving woman as spirals into paranoia after being (as the title teases) bit by a tick while on vacation. Chao together wrote the film with Ohs, Harris and other actors Callie Hernandez and James Cusati-Moyer.
The official synopsis reads: “After a tragic event, Yvonne (Chao) drives down to his friend Camilles (Hernandez) Bukolian new homes for some time away. She is welcome by Camilles fast-talking real estate agent friend Isaac (Harris) and his “crunchy lifestyle” enthusiast boyfriend AJ (Cusati-Moyer). The group promises a weekend with homemade meals from fresh, local ingredients and salon games with candles as an attempt to disconnect the existence of the chaos-ridden city. But when Yvonne develops worrying symptoms from a tick piece, rural paradise disappears and reveals a breeding ground for a disturbing new life. ”
The horror movie was inspired by a trip to Berkshires and captures the “thousands of terror from modern adulthood” when the log line teases.
“This role was gathered in an exquisitely organic way. There were no auditions, only conversations, ”Ohs told Indieview. “I got to know James Talent through the editing of Jeremy’s documentary” Slave Game. Not a movie. A game., ‘And Zoë, I have known relaxed for several years and have always had these playful videos she does with her sister and post on Instagram. Both Callie and Jeremy were recent and favorite collaborators. This group’s chemistry on the screen is one of the many film miracles that we were gifted in this project. I feel lucky that they were all available and willing to be strange and make a movie about ticks. ”
Harris applauded specifically how productive OHS is. “Work with Pete as intimate as editor of my documentary, I could wit the first hand how his mind worked and wanted to go deeper. When the offer to work with another film as an actor, co -author and producer showed up, it felt like the perfect opportunity, “Harris told IndieWire to join the” true beauty of being bitten by a tick “. “As a lover of independent film, the chance to collaborate with a voice felt as dynamic and safe as he, while he also focused more on the process than the product too unique to pass. He is productive to a crazy degree. In less than two years, we have now collaborated on three films together. … he is right in the banking heart of what is really independent in the cinema can mean. ”
Chao added that the filming of the feature was like “Returning to low stakes playing” on set. “We were allowed to be bad, to be wrong, to be big. There was something really clean about the two weeks together where we promised to prioritize the process in front of the product and only use what was available to us. It was not something strange or unnecessary. No hierarchy, no surplus, ”she said. “Eat the foods we bought, write, shoot the scenes, ask many questions, try to answer these questions, smoke some cigarettes, sleep, do it again. I realized that this experience with Pete and company was exactly what I needed when I needed it. “
Cusati-Moyer and Hernandez agreed, with Cusati-Moyer who said the feature “felt like playing again.” “Laughter is a good barometer when he worked with Pete, and it became the guiding power to make” the real beauty of being bitten by a tick, “Hernandez said.” Every collaboration with Pete is a completely new and exciting experience. “
This is OHS’s first film as a premiere at SXSW since his 2022 Breakout Micro Budget Indie “Jethica.” “The real beauty of being bitten by a tick” premiere on March 7 at SXSW as a sales title from CAA. Check out the trailer, an indieviewer exclusive, below.
