Radu Jude’s’ Continental ’25’ gets North American distribution

Brand new store distribution label 1-2 Special has made its First Big Buy – Out of the BerlinaleAnd it’s a banger. The New Shingle has announced Friday that it has acquired North American rights to “Continental ’25”, the latest film from To Juda’s workHead of 2021 Golden Bear winner “Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn” and “Don’t expect too much from the end of the world.” The work of the Romanian filmmaker has been acclaimed in the states.

The film premiered in the competition earlier this month at Berlin International Film Festival, where it won Silver Bear for best script from a jury led by Todd Haynes. Officially described as “an existential black comedy that follows Orsolya (Eszter Tompa), a bailiff in Cluj, Transylvania,” follows the movie what happens “one day (when) she has to reject a homeless man who lives in the basement in a building. An unexpected event creates a moral crisis as she tries to solve as good as she can.”

Indieview’s review of the movie Noted that “its moral dimensions are more simple than those in Jew’s previous works (and its form much simpler in nature), but only because their practical applications are so much knots in return. Where ‘Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn’ and ‘do not expect too much from the end of the world’ scaled the personal ruin of his characters against spreading backgrounds of systemic abuse, the much more intimate and less upsetting-‘continental’ 25 ‘filters the perversity of neoliberalism through the eyes of a well-being.

The film is the first purchase for Jason Halestein’s recently launched 1-2 special, and Helleste shared in an official statement, “It could not be a better first acquisition for us than the newest film from Radu Jude, one of the most innovative and provocative filmmakers working today. It is a privilege to work with Radu to bring “continental” 25 “to the audience over North America.”

1-2 Special is a theater-first, all-right distributor, “which is dedicated to release cross-border works from visionary directors.” Halestein launched the company earlier this month, after leaving his perch at Sideshow, where he served as a founding CEO. Before Sideshow he worked in acquisition On Magnolia pictures and in marketing and PR on Cinetic Media. With the New York-based 1-2 special, Hellestein aims to release up to ten films annually. Halestein will serve as CEO for 1-2 special and will announce further employment this spring.

In an official note, it always shared Wily Jude, “Dear Friends, the Manufacturers of ‘Continental’ 25 ‘are happy to be able to share the film, which takes place in the Transylvanic Region Romania, with the American audience. For me personally, as the author’s director of the film, people are first and foremost the cinema’s land (even when a bunch of people come and I hope to do so) and I hope to meet it) and I hope to meet. Curious about what the world looks like in a distant country. When it comes to Canada, we are very honored to show our film in a brave and independent country. “
