The film premiered in the competition earlier this month at Berlin International Film Festival, where it won Silver Bear for best script from a jury led by Todd Haynes. Officially described as “an existential black comedy that follows Orsolya (Eszter Tompa), a bailiff in Cluj, Transylvania,” follows the movie what happens “one day (when) she has to reject a homeless man who lives in the basement in a building. The film is the first purchase for Jason Halestein’s recently launched 1-2 special, and Helleste shared in an official statement, “It could not be a better first acquisition for us than the newest film from Radu Jude, one of the most innovative and provocative filmmakers working today. It is a privilege to work with Radu to bring “continental” 25 “to the audience over North America.”
1-2 Special is a theater-first, all-right distributor, “which is dedicated to release cross-border works from visionary directors.” Halestein launched the company earlier this month, after leaving his perch at Sideshow, where he served as a founding CEO.
