Nicolas Cage Puts rumble and tumble in surf and peat.
The iconic actor leads psychological thriller ”Surfer“Who centers on a man fighting against local surfers in a peat war to regain his home by the beach.
Cage stars as a named character who brings his teenage son (Finn Little) to the Australian beach where he grew up. His character is an Australian who moved to California when he himself was a teenager after his father was found dead on the same beach. Now he wants to restore his Aussie roots in town – the only question is that the locals are less than happy to welcome him back.
Synopsis reads: “A man returns to the idyllic beach in his childhood to surf with his son. But his desire to hit the waves is hindered by a group of locals whose mantra is “does not live here, do not surf here.” Handy and angry, the man is drawn into a conflict that continues to rise in collaboration with this summer’s punishment and drives him to his breaking point. ”
Alexander Bertrand, Julian McMahon and Nic Cassim also play. Cage, Leonora Darby, James Harris, Robert Connolly, James Grandison, Brunella Coccighlia and Nathan Klingher produce the feature.
The function is invoiced as a psychological thriller comedy with surreal elements. Lorcan Finnegan leads from a script by Thomas Martin. “The Surfer” premiered in the midnight section of 2024 Cannes Film Festival.
The Indieview review Quoted the nods for the 1970s New Wave Australian Cinema, especially with its aesthetic hints to Peter Weir and George Miller. Further film comparisons include Ted Kotcheff’s “Wake in Fright” and Nicolas Roeg’s “Walkabout”, both from 1971.

Cage comes next Led David O. Russell’s 70’s Biopian “Madden” About NFL legend John Madden. Cage depicts the titular figure during his service as coach of the Oakland Raiders.
