Duke Johnson make his solo-directing debut with the long-awaited noir, ”The actor. ”
Johnson is reunited with his “Anomalisa” director Charlie Kaufman to Executive produce “The Actor”, as stars André Holland As a man who realizes that he has no idea what his true identity is after surviving a brutal attack in the 1950s Ohio. Johnson together wrote the script with Stephen Cooney, which is based on the novel “Memory” by Donald E. Westlake.
The official synopsis reads: “Paul Cole (Holland) is stranded in a mysterious little town without a memory of who he is or how he came here. Without a sense of identity or purpose, he starts from the beginning and begins to follow a local costume designer Edna (Gemma Chan). When pieces and pieces of his past slowly show up, he tries to find his way home, but time is slippery, performances cannot be trusted, and it is unclear which of his identities are real. ”

Neon film was originally announced 2021 with Ryan Gosling with the lead role and executive producing. Gosling is still on the e -penetration of the function. To note, Lead Star Holland recently appeared in “Exhibition of Forgiveness”, which was the executive produced by Gosling’s “Place Beyond the Pines” director Derek Cianfrance.
The “actor” is Johnson’s long-awaited first solo game movie that directs credit. He previously served as a supervisory animation director for “Cosmos: possible worlds” and cooperated with “Anomalisa” co -director Kaufman As a producer of animation on “I’m going to end things.”
“Anomalisa” Johnson, Kaufman and Rosa Tran got an Oscar nomination for best animated feature film 2016.
The “actor” is produced by Johnson, Abigail Spencer, Paul Young and Ken Kao.
