Universal moves his title Steven Spielberg Event Film Away from “Avengers: Doomsday” and “The Mandalorian and Grogu”, and straight into “Scary Movie” reboot territory. That title Spielberg movie was set for a theater publishing of May 15, 2026; the film Will now wait for almost another month and will release wide on Friday 12 June 2026.
The shift is not all about Spielberg, Indieview has learned.
The June track was previously occupied by another owed universal event film, one Directed by Daniels Kwan and Scheinert. The Daniels Film is now undated, but a new release date will be announced shortly. It has a script, a person with knowledge about the situation told IndieWire, but needs a little more time. Internally, the Spielberg shift is seen as a win-win for both (unit, events) films.
It’s not like there is no competition for Spielberg’s new dates – it’s currently less of a crossover with potential film guests. June 12 is the same date as the restarted “Scary Movie” will be released and is a week after “Masters of the Universe.” Spielberg Pic will have a week’s lead on “Toy Story 5.” Overall, it is a less competitive place.
Universal’s original event film created and directed by Spielberg will start Josh O’Connor (“Challengers,” The Crown “), Emily Blunt (” Oppenheimer, “” A Quiet Place “), Colman Domingo (” Sing Sing “,” Rustinin “), Colin Firth (” The King’s Speech “,” Kingsman “-Franchise) and Eve Hewson (” Bad Sisters, “The Perfect Couple”).
Based on a story by Spielberg is the script by David Koepp, who wrote the script for “Jurassic Park”, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park”, “War of the Worlds” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Crystal Skalle.” So yes, they have worked together before. Koepp also wrote the script for the upcoming “Jurassic World Rebirth.”
In April 2024, Reported The Spielberg’s next project will “probably” be “a UFO movie based on his own original idea” and written by Koepp. Sounds like an event film to us.
Then again, Pretty much some Spielberg Film is an event film – For cinefiles, at least. Spielberg is the top director of time and a three-round Oscar winner: Best director and best picture for “Schindler’s list” and best director for “Saving Private Ryan.”
2022, IndieWire (and others) reported The Spielberg worked with a Frank Bullitt -Biopic. Bradley Cooper would later start as BullittThe character famous from Steve McQueen -Triller in 1968. The one set at Warner Bros. With Spielberg scheduled to direct from a script by “Spotlight” Oscar winner Josh Singer. It was intended to be a completely original story and not a new recording of the original “Bullitt” movie by Peter Yates. Cooper and Spielberg would produce with Kristie Macosko Krieger; The same trio produced Netflix “Maestro.” McQueen’s son Chad and his grandson Molly were appointed executive producers on Spielberg’s “Bullitt.”
There have been no updates to Spielberg’s “Bullitt” since the first few days 2024, which is not good for the project. A Warner Bros. Rep reply did not immediately respond to IndieWire’s latest request for comment on the feature stopped.
