The Writers Guild Awards take place on Saturday at simultaneous ceremonies in Los Angeles and New York. Thewrap will update the list of winners that they will be announced.
“Nickel Boys” won the night’s first award for best adapted script. “Anora” won for best original script. Maybe because the BAFTA Award takes place in London on Sunday, the two prizes were the first to be awarded and gave “Nickel Boys” writer Ramell Ross and Joslyn Barnes (who was at the Los Angeles ceremony) and the “Anora” author Sean Sean Baker (who was in New York) more time to get to London.
In the categories for film films, eligibility for the Writers Guild Awards is limited to the script which was signed under the Guild’s smallest basic agreement or according to related agreements from affiliated international guilder. That rule made most of this year’s Oscar -nominated not entitled to the author’s Guild nominations, with the original scripts “The Brutalist”, “September 5” and “The Substance” and the adaptations “Conclave”, “Sing Sing” and “Emilia Pérez “All disqualified. Despite the difference in justification, the WGA winner has in recent years won Oscar about two-thirds of the time in the adapted manuscript category and a little more than half of the time in the original script category.
The Writers Guild of America, West Ceremony takes place at Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, while WGA, East Ceremony takes place at Edison Ballroom in New York City.
At the WGAW ceremony, David Lynch will be greeted with a postum presentation of the Laurel Award for screenwriting, which he could accept personally before he died in January. In other honorary awards, Vince Gilligan will receive the Paddy Chayfsky Laurel Award for TV -Writing performance, and “Nickel Boys” writer Ramell Ross and Joslyn Barnes will receive Paul Selvin Award.
Wgae gives honorary awards to Scott Frank “Ian McLellan Hunter Award for Career Performance”, Bill Lawrence “The Herb Sargent Award for Comedy Excellence” and Kathy McGee “Richard B. Jablow Award for Devoted Service to Guild”.
