A new hold of Cult Horror Classic ”Audition“One of the more influential modern horror films in the torture porn genre comes to the screen.
Focus functions approaching a deal to produce a functional adaptation of “audition” based on horror thriller novel in 1997 by Ryū Murakami, which was originally brought to the screen of Japanese Master Takashi Miike 1999 with Ryo Ishibashi and Eihi Shiina.
Focus will produce the project together with Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park Entertainment and Mario Tasse Productions, who have dropped Christian Tafdrup to write and direct film. Tafdrup is the Danish director behind the original ”Speak no evil,“Last year was adapted to English by Blumhouse and Universal. Tafdrup together writes the script with his brother Mads Tafdrup.
“Audition” begins as a domestic drama of a widow who holds hollow auditions to find a new wife, just to discover that the woman he chooses has a disturbing secret and dark past and quickly swings to intense psychological horror. Although it is hardly a cash office and barely known in its original Japan, the film is one of Miike’s most famous films among Western audiences. The new film is not described as a new recording of Miike’s film but a new time for the original novel.
The focus would produce together with Hyde Parks Ashok and Priya Amritraj and Mario bags for MKP. Murakami also produces, like Chris McGurk and Yolanda Macias for Cineverse, the studio behind “Terifier 2 and 3.” Joyce Jun is also an EP.
Tafdrup is also an actor who is known for his role in the adventure series 2017 “Tinka’s Juleeventyr.” He was nominated for best director, best original script and best film for “Speak No Evil” at 2023 Danish Film Awards.
