George Clooney is an actor approaching the end of his clutch Noah Baumbach’s “Jay Kelly.” That’s because he actually plays an actor, who here is Hollywood-famous and loved, but with a career on the line after a bad call with a former actor colleague (Billy Crudup) and a strained relationship with his daughter (Grace Edwards). Baumbach is on the hook for an Oscar victory after four nominations, including 2024 for best adapted script for “Barbie” with Gerwig. It is fascinating to see how his sensitivity has been widened (and with a larger budget) since the days of “kicking and screaming” and “the octopus and choices”, scary Indians about neurotic New Yorkers.
