Mexico’s leading film festivalFounded in the capital of Michoacán in 2003 to celebrate the AUTEUR Cinema, this year welcomes Oscar-nominated filmmakers Ava Duvernay As jury president of the 23rd Morelia International Film Festival. This year’s festival runs October 10 – 19.

While Morelia does not always appoint a single jury president for its various sections, previous editions have been presented in leading jurors Alexander Payne (2024), Rodrigo Prieto (2023), Paweł Pawlikowski (2022), Volker Schlödorff (2021).

The 2025 program is a mix of Mexican and international feature films, together with special events celebrating cinema. Duvernay is also the founder of Narrative Change Studio Array, recipient of the Peabody Institutional Award. She has an honorary doctor of art art from Yale University and Morehouse College. Smithsonian assigned her in 2025 with her great Americans medal. Duvernay serves on the Board of Governors at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which represents the director’s branch and has advisory roles with both Director Guild of America and the American Film Institute.
