Over two years after it premiered to rave reviews at Sundance 2023, producer Sofia Coppola and director Andrew Durhams ”Fairyland“Finally lands in theaters, with permission of Lionsgate and Willa, and the trailer is here (see below). The film is Durham’s debut and will meet theaters on October 10.
The log line for “Fairyland” describes it as “a story of the coming age in the light of San Francisco’s lively cultural scene in the 1970s and 80s”, with the action as a chronic “a father and subsidiary as it develops through an era of the bohemian decadence to the last to the senior and heartbreaking of help.
The rollist includes Emilia JonesScoot McNaairy, Cody FernMaria Bakalova, Bella Murphy, Adam Lambert, Oscar winner Geena Davis and newcomer Ness Dougherty. Durham is a veteran film And TV professional who has worked with prominent productions for over three decades, with back to their early days and worked with as a production assistant on “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me” and “Scream.” His long relationship with Coppola goes back to his first card in 1998, “Lick the Star”, which he produced. He had leading roles on MTV Networks and Fox Television Studios.
“Andrew has been a friend and a collaborator since the 90s, we grew up a bit and found us together and made some short films together,” Coppola told IndieWire At Sundance 2023. “He is always someone I trust in getting notes for my edits, and I’m a fan of Andrew’s films that he did as a child. So I always want to seek his work. … When I read that book I thought,” Oh, this would make a beautiful movie. “And he came to mind because I thought he knew that world and that story and I thought he could bring something beautiful and I trust his feelings.”
Coppola’s latest producing project was her own “Priscilla,” which she also directed and received lovingly in 2023 (and was produced by its subject, Priscilla Presley, adapted from her memoir). She will release the next “Marc by Sofia”, in Venice on September 2 – a documentary about fashion designer Marc Jacobs.
Star Emilia Jones will also appear this fall “The running man,” Alongside Glen Powell and William H. Macy, will be released on November 14.
Jones discussed with Indiewire his preparation for “Fairyland”, which requires a lot to recreate the atmosphere in San Francisco in the 1970s. “I did a lot of research. I had a scene in the nightclub dance and Andrew said to me:” Don’t make any modern dance, “said Jones.” There are actually lots of videos on Youtube of real nightclubs in the 80s … So I only looked at hours and hours and hours of it … and even Maggie (Whitaker), when I was so fantastic, she was so fantastic. Time. She nailed it. ”
