Indie A author Jim Jarmusch brings his eighth film to the Film Festival 2025 New York: “Father Mother Sister Brother” will play on October 3 and make his North American debut.
“I am so very proud of the long story of my work presented at NyFF,” said Jarmusch in a Thursday statement, “and is now super -listed that my newest film” Father Mother Sister Brother “has been selected for the center of the year. Nyff, the elected church.
Structured in the form of a triptych, “Father Mother Sister Brother” explores relations between adult children and their parents in different corners of the world. In a story, siblings (Adam drive and Mayim Bialik) visit their feedback father (Tom Waits) in New Jersey. In another, the sisters (Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett) connect with her chilly mother (Charlotte Rampling) in Dublin. In the third, twins (Indya Moore and Luka Sabbath) go to their family apartment in Paris to handle a tragedy.
The festival described the movie (which will be released by Mubi) as “a kind of anti-action film, its subtle and silent style designed carefully to allow small details to collect as flowers that are carefully placed in three sensitive arrangements.”
“Jim Jarmusch’s new film is not only one of his very best, it distilles everything we have loved and values about this singular film creator’s work for a wonderful triptych,” said Dennis Lim, the festival’s artistic director, in a statement. “‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ is wise, generous, jam fun and extremely mobile, and we are honored to present it as our choice of the middle piece this year.”
Jarmusch debuted at the New York Film Festival in 1984 with “Stranger Than Paradise.” He had a continued presence at the festival in the 1980s and 90s with “Down by Law”, “Mystery Train” and “Night on Earth”, and returned in the 2010 century with “Only lovers who left alive”, “Paterson” and “Gimme Danger.” In addition to screening her work for many years, in 2023, Jarmusch designed the poster for the 61st Nyff.
Some of his other most famous films include “Permanent Vacation”, “Dead Man”, “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai,” “Coffee and Cigarettes” and “Broken Flowers”, the winner of the Grand Prix at the Film Festival 2005.
Jarmusch will participate in October 3 North American premiere of “Father Mother Sister Brother” with role members to be established.
As before announcedLuca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt”, with Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri, will open the 63rd festival. Last yearPedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door” was the centerpiece of the festival.
