Square Peg Social will include private dinners, special programming and intimate gatherings intended to promote conversation and collaboration for those who want to expand their career in the world of film.

“Whether you are a doctoral student with a bold first card, a writer-director redefined genre or a producer who is looking for advice and possibilities-if your voice is distinct and your work unpologetically your own-we want to hear from you,” Knudsen said in a statement.

In addition to the selected applicants, Knudsen and Aster will invite 30 of their most reliable collaborators over several disciplines to share their insights and experiences, making a one-to-one-participant-to-professional quota. Weekend promises inauguration, renewed hope and unique connections, as the happy participants go out into the world to really create a new Film Framtime.

Aster spoke to indieview About why he was inspired to launch the workshop. “I just remember that I started and didn’t know what to do,” he said. “Many filmmakers have struggled. Sometimes when I meet them they say it’s super useful just to talk for 30 minutes and give advice on what they do is right, or if there is something I would suggest they do instead.”

Knudsen told Indiewire that this weekend’s format places an emphasis on conversation because he believes it is the most effective environment to provide real guidance.

“There are some producers who are very good at teaching and talking,” he said. “And I’m definitely not one of them. I think I’m much better in a very informal, intimate, one-on-a-environment. I can sit with a young filmmaker for two hours and just tell them everything they want to know.”
