Dick Cavett is still miffed about a publicity stunt 50 years later. The iconic talk show hosts, which led their own named series for decades, visited the criterion’s wardrobe (in the video below) to remind some of his most beloved films – and the most notorious moments in his series.
Cavet remembered how the role of “Men“Were some of the most” shit “guests at” The Dick Cavet Show “in 1970. The actors Peter Falk, Ben Gazzara and John Cassaveteswho also directed filmshowed up at the Cavet’s show on September 18, 1970. The trio was pretending to faint, removed his socks and had a winding discussion on stage. Look at this. Obviously, it was so bad that Cassavetes blamed in advance if “men” flopped in theaters on the talk show look.
“It’s the movie that these three guys came up with and made total donkeys by themselves. You can find it online:” The worst show Dick Cavet ever did, “said cavet.” They went around all the time and did very fun things, like taking off your shoes and smelling your feet. Afterwards, John Cassavetes chewed himself and said, “You only have unsold, if not all, of the tickets to this movie.” ”
He added, “and they were like three children were crushed by criticism. It was a bit sad to say, but it didn’t compensate for how shit they were on the show.”
“Men” continued to the premiere at the San Francisco International Film Festival in October 1970. Although now a respected classic, the film did not initially land with the audience: ticket buyers who apparently went out of the premiere, and the Los Angeles Times said that the film was “the most unanimously shielded” film at the festival. Indieviews Ryan Lattanzio wrote In a retrospective essay that “men” later critically praised and became an inspiration for directors like Judd Apatow. “The Dark Night of the Soul Shared by Cassavetes, Gazzara, and Falk in ‘Husbands,’ Captured with the In-your-Face Quality of a Cinéma Vérité Documentary by Cinematographer Victor J. Kemper, Lands All the Charactors in the Doghouse. ‘Husbands’ Remains a must-see Cassavetes Classic as a look into what’s happening on the other side of a woman’s panic. “
Even when he was in the criterion wardrobe, Cavett said that the late Katharine Hepburn would be frustrated by the modern “Philadelphia story” Blu-ray cover.
“Katharine Hepburn thinks I would be annoyed that she is just a small figure in this picture,” he said, leaving that he had a unique band with Hepburn. “I never happened to me that I would ever make her do these shows (like” The Dick Cavet Show “). She called and she said,” You know you made me a fucking saint. Everywhere I go, if I shop, people suddenly love me more than ever before. ”
And despite his trip to the viral wardrobe, Cavett will not make his record boxes four favorites at any time soon.
““ What is your favorite movie? “Type of annoying me,” Cavet said. “Is there really any movie that tops them all? I would rather not ask me what my favorite movie is. But if you want to know is my favorite movie” The Third Man. ”
