For the third year in a row, IndieWire announces the 2025 edition of Upstate New York Hudson Film Festival. This year’s festival runs on Thursday, August 7, until Sunday, August 10 and opens with the local premiere of Kate Beecroft’s 2025 Sundance Next Public Award winner “East of Wall.”

Among the expanded 17 films shown and special events throughout the festival are three free for society: the festival’s first free youth ever Film Workshop, its first free short film exhibition and the return of its popular free family screening.

The rounding of the 2025 slate are acclaimed documentary Heidi Ewing and Rachel Gradu’s “Folktales”, a Spotlight -screening of Hudson Valley comedy “between The Temples” and a free short film exhibition. The festival continues its popular free family film screening with “Encanto”, in collaboration with Olana State Historic Site and Hudson Area Library.
The festival’s new programming will include its first free youth -focused film workshop on Saturday, August 10, in collaboration with Stockade Works and Spark of Hudson. The program serves as a practical film and TV workshop for students in high school (class 6–8) and introduces the students to the various roles during film and television crafts. At the end of the workshop, each group will have contributed to a short, edited video compilation that will be displayed at the festival.
