Acclaimed Actress Danielle Deadwyler (“To”, “Piano Section”) is back on the big screen this summer with the release of RT Thornes “40 acres. “The critically famous 2024 TIFF-premiere-a survival measure-thriller set after a plague has destroyed wildlife on earth-not opening nationally until July 2. But selected audiences can see the film for free on the coming Juneteenth Holiday, June 19, with permission from distributor Magnolia pictures.
As IndieWire exclusively announces, Magnolia will collaborate with top radio stations, DJs and affinity groups in selected US cities to bring film Directly to local communities to honor the 160th anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States. (June became a federal vacation 2021.)
Cities and partners include Atlanta, GA (Majic 107.5/97.5), Birmingham, Al (WBHK-FM 98.7 Kiss), Chicago, IL (Creative Cypher + XL Fest), Dallas, TX (Juilliard Black Alumni Association-JBAA) Alumni), Los Angeles, CA (Radio Free 102.3 Kjlh), Nashville, TN (Joe Major from 101.1 The Beat), New Orleans, Los Angeles (Bmike + eternal seeds) and New York, NY (DJ Sussone). Radio parts are ongoing in Atlanta, Birmingham and Los Angeles, with other organizations that also offer outreach. Free shows take place at selected Regal, AMC and Cinemark sites for each cities, with the Los Angeles screening at the broad theater. Led by executive producer Deadwyler, the movie also plays Michael Greyeyes, Kataem O’Connor, Leenah Robinson, Jaeda Leblanc, Haile Amare, Elizabeth Saunders and Tyrone Benskin. Thorne (in his functional director’s debut) wrote the film with Glenn Taylor.
Here is the film’s synopsis: “In ‘40 acres‘After a plague eradicates all wildlife, spreading famine all over the world and leaving society at war and in ruins, but the freemen survive – even flowers – on their ancestors farm as long as they send single raid party. But what benefit survives the end of the world if it means to spin out your own humanity? Former soldier Hailey (Deadwyler) made that choice years ago and believed that isolation was the only way to protect her family. She and her partner, crazy (Michael Greyeyes), fled the collapse with their children, fenced them from the world and trained them to fight (and, yes, dead). But now Hailey’s oldest, Emanuel (Kataem O’Connor), is a young man, and when he meets a young woman (Milcania Diaz-Rrojas) in the forest beyond the fence, his need for human contact can place the whole family in danger. “
